Who We Are
Maldives Economy Today (MET) is an independent digital publication dedicated to evidence-based analysis of the Maldivian economy, public policy, governance and development.
Our objective is to improve public understanding of the issues shaping the country’s future by publishing accessible, well-researched analysis grounded in data, evidence and international best practice.
MET is not a news outlet. We focus on explaining why economic and policy developments matter and what they mean for businesses, policymakers, researchers, students and the wider public.
Why MET?
Sound public policy depends on informed public discussion. Maldives Economy Today was established to make economic and public policy analysis more accessible, evidence-based and relevant to the challenges facing the Maldives.

Every publication is guided by five principles.

Arguments are supported by data, published research and credible sources.
Independent
Editorial decisions are made independently and are not influenced by political affiliation or commercial interests.

Complex economic issues are explained in language that is understandable without sacrificing analytical rigour.

Analysis aims to improve understanding and contribute to better policymaking rather than simply criticising decisions.

Sources are cited wherever possible, and differing perspectives are acknowledged.

The Data Centre
Coming soon.
MET is exploring the development of a Data Centre to provide easier access to key economic, fiscal, financial and social indicators relating to the Maldives.
Over time, the Data Centre could bring together interactive charts, downloadable datasets and links to official statistical sources to support research and informed decision-making.
